The Maple Syrup Diet was made famous by the famed singer and actor
Beyoncé Knowles, who is said to have lost a whopping twenty pounds for
her acclaimed role in the Hollywood flick Dream girls. The Maple Syrup
diet is also known as Lemon Diet, Master Cleanse and the Lemonade Diet.
The diet is primarily a simple 10 day detoxification program. The 40-day
diet is recommended for those, who want to shed more kilos. It is also
recommended for the extreme cases of obesity and other medical
conditions.
The Maple Syrup Diet Plan is said to do wonders by
cleansing the body of harmful toxins, especially in the colon region.
Today, the Maple Syrup Diet is one of the most rapid and extreme weight loss
programs for those who wish to lose those extra pounds super quick. The
diet has since been popularized by several other big names and
celebrities like Ashton Kutcher, Naomi Campbell, Jared Leto, Gwyneth
Paltrow and Demi Moore.
While the diet has had its shares of controversies, it is a safe and
effective way to lose weight, showing results in just 10 days. Contrary
to reports, dieters lose up to 15 pounds in 10 days and do not put the
weight back on. It is, however, an intensive diet and should be treated
as such. The individual looking to undergo the diet must ensure he or
she has no medical restrictions as it is an extreme and rapid weight loss program. It is best to consult a physician before undergoing the diet plan.
Maple Syrup Diet:
Those following the
diet are required to consume a concoction of the maple syrup, the
primary ingredient at least 6 times a day. Other ingredients include
lemon juice, plain water, cayenne pepper, and fresh ginger. They are not
allowed to consume any other food and derive their energy from this
drink. Intake of calories is restricted severely and must be well below
the dieter’s previous daily intake. Individuals on the diet consume
approximately 500 to 600 calories a day when on the diet, which is well
below the prescribed 1,600 calories for women and 2,500 calories for
men. Those on the diet plan are suggested to drink laxative teas to
further help in cleansing the body.
There have been several
negative side effects of the maple syrup diet that have been reported by
people. One of them is developing an urge to use the bathroom often.
All the ingredients have a laxative effect on the body and being an
entirely liquid based diet, it forces the people on diet to spend hours
in the loo. Other reported side effects include fatigue and nausea. Both
of them are caused by the reduced intake of calories and the
restriction to use only liquid. Many also complain of mood swings and
dizziness when on this diet.
As listed above it is important to note that this diet can cause
fatigue and weakness. It also noteworthy that all the primary
ingredients like maple syrup, lemon juice and cayenne pepper have rather
low nutritional value. The beverage does not provide proteins, fibre,
carbohydrates or fat to the body. The body is put through what amounts
to starvation for a period of 10 days. This leads to slowing of body
metabolism to conserve energy as the mixture supplies minimal energy.
Thus, it is suggested to avoid heavy exercise when undertaking this
diet. The diet is not recommended for a long term as it lowers sodium
and potassium levels in the body. However, for a short term cleanse, the
diet works well. It is a detoxification or a cleansing process, which
clears the lymphatic and digestive system of toxins.
Post Cleanse Care:
Dieters
need to maintain a strict routine after ‘the cleansing’ or maple syrup
diet. Avoid junk food, trans-fats and other unhealthy items and include
plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, protein and juices in the diet.
The person who is on maple syrup or lemon diet
might take a few days to recover from fatigue, weakness and possible
light-headedness. A good idea is to slowly increase fruit and vegetable
intake to gradually bring the body back to a normal digestive cycle
without causing nausea, vomiting or a stomach upset.
The maple syrup diet is an amazing cleanse plan to rid the body of
the flab instantly, and get a fabulous physique in a span of 10 days. If
you are looking for a quick-fix safe solution to your weight problems,
this diet is for you!
